8th November 2024- Big Current Big Fish
Mega Wild left the harbour to a slight southerly blow and some extremely blue water! We ventured our way out to South Solitary Island, with a group of keen divers looking to get in for a double dive. As we have had recent dives with great conditions, spirits were high!
Being protected from the swell and wind, the top end of the island offered the best conditions. Our advanced group of divers descended at Manta Arch for their first dive and swam through the gutter where they met the rest of our divers at Shark Gutters. The swim through Cleaner Gutter had around 20 Grey Nurse Sharksalong with half a dozen Scalloped Hammerheads seen above the Cleaner Station Mooring! The amazing visibility and warming water made this an extremely enjoyable dive.
Our second dive was a nice drift from the top end of the island to the Gantry, riding down with the nice current we had running down bouilder wall! Some more Grey Nurse Sharks were seen, massive Black Cod inside of Shark Gutters, schooling Goat Fish and pomfrets, lots of Blue Tangs near the Gantry, Green Turtles and a couple Hawsbills, large pelagic fish that came with the big current, Bull Rays, and an Eagle Ray.
