Welcome to the March 2024 Jetty Dive Debrief! This is our newest addition to the blog – the “debrief”. Here we are going to let you know how the water has been, what the season showed us, any interesting or noteworthy details, and what we’ve achieved as a shop!

Seasonal Marine Life Activity:

The second of march we entered the water to much colder temperatures, and thus saw some more cold-water life! This meant there was 25+ Grey Nurse Sharks on this dive!

There were QLD Groper on the 3rd of March at South Solitary, and Leopard Sharks and Clown Triggerfish at North Solitary Island. We spotted some more Leopard Blennys on the 6th, and some adorable “Depressed Spider Crabs” and a Dunker’s Pipehorse on the 13th.

On the 17th the visibility cleared up again, and we saw white spotted eagle rays, and on the 18th a Whaler Shark was crusing around Buchanan’s in the distance.

On the 23rd of March, we saw a few more Leopard Sharks around Boulder Wall. This continued with half a dozen Leopards on the 24th, and three or four on the 25th. We also saw a dozen white spotted Eagle Rays on the 24th of March which is a gorgeous sight for our divers! There was plenty of White Spotted Eagle Rays on the 25th, plus we had a visit from Barney the resident loggerhead turtle.

The Leopard Sharks and Eagle Rays kept on showing up as we saw another dozen of each on the 26th, and more on the 29th.

There was more Leopards, more eagle rays, and turtles on the 30th, and the same on Easter Sunday the 31st. There was octopus, nudibranches, and plenty of schooling fish all throughout the month.

Conditions

Visibility

We had quite fluctuating visibility and conditions throughout March! Some very low visibility days early on led to much nicer water conditions towards the end of the month!

Temperature

After a cold snap early in the month, we had quite consistent water temperature throughout March!

Sustainability and the environment

This section we are dedicating to showing what steps we are taking to reduce our environmental impact. It might include incentives we have implemented or tried through the month, or programs we have participated in. We intend to expand upon our conservation efforts page with everything we have implemented in store – as we are doing much more than this page shows!

In March, we started stocking Ocean Armour products! We are so excited to stock these items as they are made with 100% Recycled materials in the way of plastic single use water bottles! They have hooded ponchos in adults and kids sizes, and also towels!

We love supporting another Australian Business, especially one using recycled materials! Plus, Ocean Armour donate 10% of their profits to Marine Conservation projects on the Great Barrier Reef!
