What are dive holidays like, and where is Tufi?

Q. How do you find out where to go on an Overseas Dive Holiday?

Specialist Travel Companies like Dive Adventures are instrumental in finding great deals in great locations.  Destinations all around the Pacific Rim are researched, we try to get the most exotic dive location within a comfortable travel distance.  As our Solitary Islands have special features at home, so do a lot of tropical, remote dive resorts offer some amazing diving.  We like to target water temp near 30c that gives a totally different feel of diving comfort.  Cost and value is also a high priority so divers can afford our trips.  It would be fantastic to have a trip to the Galapagos islands, but at $10, 000 a diver, it is not affordable to most of us!  Mike and Deb have led over 30 trips and have a good idea about the diving, so don’t be afraid to ask them questions too.

Q. Why choose locations like Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands?

We are so lucky to have these remote tropical frontiers on our doorstep.  They are uniquely isolated from the domestic world, and yet most of their resorts offer a touch of luxury we appreciate.  The diving is as far away from the crowds as you can get.  This also gives us some of the most pristine reef systems in the world.  The locals do not damage their reefs like in Indonesia and SE Asia, and population with pollution is unheard of.

Q. What is the agenda of an Overseas Dive Trip?

We usually plan to Dive every day, and mostly it is two dives, so you have time to relax as well.  However some trips offer more diving if you want to, like Tufi, you can do 3 or even 4 dives a day in the same price.  It is up to you!  As a group, you can mix with others or keep to yourself, it is entirely up to you.  We usually find that group members become good friends on the trips.  Twin share rooms with ensuite are the standard type of accommodation.

Q. What is included in the trips, is there any extras?

Dive Adventures make it as easy as it can get, Air-fares from Australia, accommodation along the whole trip and a set number of Dives are always included.  Locations that are remote usually also include meals as well, which can be great value in the total cost.  Tufi Dive resort has great dining and meals are included.  Sometimes if you want to dive over the included dives, you will pay for the extra dives.

Q. So where is Tufi Dive Resort ?

Tufi Resort in Papua New Guinea, is next year’s overseas destination.  We have one trip already full and the next with plenty of room. (in early May 2016).  We fly from Brisbane to Port Moresby, the capital of New Guinea, and then onto Tufi.  It is located on the northern side of the mainland, in a remote location accessible by boat and plane only.  The area has massive Fjords leading up to the huge mountain range of New Guinea.  It has scenery that would suit Jurassic Park!  Offshore, it has some reef systems that rise from thousands of metres deep, to within metres of the surface, loaded with tropical fish.  Mike and Deb were at Tufi in 2010, however, it was July and not the best timing with prevailing  fresh winds, so they were determined to come back and dive some of the outer reef they missed last time.  What they saw was amazing, everything from massive schools of fish and tropical reef walls, to a diverse range of Nudibranchs and critters in the Fjords.
