22th June 2025- Sensational Sunday
We had a beautiful Sunday morning in Coffs Harbour, so SoWild decided to pack up and take advantage of the favourable conditions! With nearly glassed out surface conditions, we cruised out to South Solitary Island with a boat full of divers and sun shining in the sky!
The top end of the island was too perfect not to jump in! Being able to see the bottom of Manta Arch from the surface, we decided this was the best bet for our first dive! Half a dozen Grey Nurse Sharks were seen at the bottom of the mooring, with another 3-4 hanging out in the Arch itself. Teagan and her Advanced student conducted a deep dive, and noted 15 more Grey Nurses in 30 metres of water. Some of our regular locals were spotted, such as Moorish Idols, Old Wives, Black Cod, and Blue grouper. Divers also heard Whales singing underwater!
Dive two saw divers jump in at Shark Gutters- one of our favourite dives! Upon descending, we were welcomed with a Spotted Eagle Ray cruising by! More grey Nurse Sharks were seen all throughout the gutters and out into the deeper waters. An Adult Pomacanthus Semicirculatus (Semicircle Angelfish) was spotted on Boulder Wall, along with heaps and heaps of schooling fish, Spanish Dancers, Painted Crayfish, massive Wobbegongs, and a school of Bat Fish.
So Wild stopped on our way back to land various times to see the Humpback Whales and Common Dolphins that were approaching the boat!
