Welcome to the world of freediving! Whether you are a newbie to the underwater world or have experience below the big blue, the Molchanov Wave 1 Beginner Freediving Course is the perfect entry point to develop the necessary skills to extend your breath hold, feel relaxed in the water, and of course dive deeper into the unknown!
Freediving is about relaxation, self-awareness and feeling connected to the ocean within you and around you…it is all about feeling good and listening to your body!
What is the Molchanov Freediving Course?
The Molchanov Freediving course teaches you important knowledge and practical skills to help you through your freediving journey.
Learn how your body reacts to breath holds and the pressure of water, different equalizing techniques and their benefits, and the importance of buddy safety.
What you will learn on a Molchanov Wave 1 Course?
- Freediving physics and physiology – Understanding your body’s innate wisdom and physiological adaptation to depth and pressure
- How to prepare for you dive: breathing and relaxation
- Freedive safety and rescue techniques
- Frenzel equalisation techniques
- Different freediving disciplines, including in pool and depth
- Use of basic freediving equipment
- Training to improve your overall freediving skills
Molchanov Wave 1 Freediving Course Schedule
- Before you join us: Complete your E-Learning theory! Learn about how your body reacts to breath-holding and how water pressure affects your body as you free dive. This in-depth online training will give you the foundational knowledge for your freediving journey!
- Friday Evening 6-8:30pm: Knowledge review, development session and dry skills practice with your freediving instructor in our classroom at the dive shop.
- Saturday: 8:30am Pool session where you will develop and hone in on your relaxation practice, static breath holding, dynamic bi-fin training and dynamic no-fins techniques. You will learn proper safetying methods and rescue procedures. 11:30AM One hour lunch break. 12:30pm-3:00pm Open Water Session Mutton Bird Island /Gidany Miirlarl. Here we will begin our introduction to line training and develop and hone in on our foundational techniques in CWBT, equalisation and in water safety protocols.
- Sunday 7:00am. Open Water Boat Dive, South Solitary Island / Bunyun gudi. During this open water session, we will be exploring depth using CWTB (bi-finning your way down the line) and FIM (pulling yourself down the line). This session are not about how deep you go, but about what your body is communicating with you as you descend…how do you feel? We will be perfecting our line foundations, safety procedures and introducing rescue protocols for diving on the line.
Molchanov Wave 2 Freediving Course Schedule
Before you join us: Complete your online theory at home, sign and submit dive medical and liability release form
Friday Evening 6-8.30pm: Advanced theory development session and dry skills practice with your freediving instructor in our classroom.
Saturday Morning: Open Water Boat Dive, South Solitary Island / Bunyun gudi. Skill and technique review and development, relaxation and depth adaptation, introduction to freefall.
Saturday Afternoon: Pool session at our local pool.
Sunday Morning: Open Water Boat Dive, South Solitary Island/ Bunyun gudi.Depth adaptation and advanced depth techniques and deep rescue performance.

Bookings are Essential to obtain the required minimum (and maximum) number of 4 students for the course.
How much is the Molchanov Freediving Course?
Molchanov Wave 1 Freediving Course – $550.00
“Long Blade Freediving Fins” are recommended for this course! If you don’t have any, we run a special deal on the Ocean Hunter Redback fins when doing your course with us!
Prerequisites
- Be at least 16 years old (with parental consent)
- Medical and Liability Release Forms signed and submitted before start of the course
- Swim 200m unassisted (in pool setting)
Molchanov Wave 2 Freediving course -$695
Prerequisites
- Be at least 18 years old (16 years old with parental consent).
- Be in good physical health (i.e., no pre-existing medical conditions, otherwise, a note from a doctor certifying that the student is fit to take part in the activity is required).
- Be certified Wave 1 for a Wave 2 course:
- OR have passed a crossover evaluation for Wave 1
- OR be certified Lap 1 for a Lap 2 or Online T2 course
- Preferably have completed Base 1 Training (or an equivalent training program).
Booking Conditions
- A deposit is required to secure your booking. Deposits are partially refundable if 7 days notice cancellation is given before the course. ($50 cannot be refundable) 7 days notice is also required If change of date otherwise the full amount of deposit will not be refunded.
- Trips are weather dependent, and may be cancelled if unsuitable sea conditions prevail. This is a decision made by Jetty Dive Centre Staff, as we will not go ahead if conditions are unsafe. Rain does not constitute for bad weather – it can often lead to better diving with more abundant fishlife!
- Plan for Sea Sickness! Even if you do not usually experience sea-sickness, we recommend taking travel sickness medication as it is better to be safe than sorry. We do not recommend using ginger. We CANNOT provide any medications.
- We have adopted a ‘Reef-Safe Sunscreen Only” policy for our trips. If you will be getting in the water, please ensure you wear only reef-safe sunscreen. For more guidance, and to check your sunscreen, please read our post about our Reef-Safe Sunscreen Policy.
