5th November 2024- Lots of Sharks!
Today’s forecast was looking promising for a double dive. SoWild headed out with minimal wind and enjoyed blowing some bubbles at South Solitary! With predominately a Southern wind blowing through, we were able to tie up on the North Side of the Island and saw lots of Shark Action!
Dive one saw some of our more advanced divers getting in at Manta Arch for a swim around the corner to meet the rest of our group at Shark Gutters. Dive two was a nice drift from the top end of the island down to South boulder! The highlight of both dives today the amount of Sharks we saw! 20+ Grey Nurse Sharks were seen around Manta Arch, with another 30+ up and down the Boulder Wall! Although the Nurses aren’t typically seen in larger numbers on The Wall, it makes sense considering the amount of Hammerheads we saw. Approximately 70-100 Scalloped Hammerheads were seen crusing out wide of the Island!! Scalloped Hammerheads are typically seen in “shivers”, today in particularly large numbers! With the presence of these guys, the Grey Nurses usually hide away inside of the Island! Some other marine animals seen were some Nudibranchs, especially as the water has been slowly but surely warming up coming into summer months. Cod, Turtles, and Bull Rays were other highlights as well. Safe to say – divers had a great time underwater!
