22nd November 2024- Tiger Time!
SoWild and a small group of divers managed to get out to South Solitary Island this morning for a fantastic double dive. With the easterly wind hitting us, it made for a bumpy ride out. Great visibility and even better underwater sightings made it all worth it!
The first saw divers jump in at Shark Gutters for a swim down to the Gantry. With the first dive being so good, everyone decided to jump in and do the same drift for the second dive! Everything we see at South Solitary was seen today, plus some!
Grey Nurse Sharks were immediately seen upon descent, spreading from the top end at Cleaner all the way down to South Boulder. Nathan and Julz also spotted a pair of Bronze Whalers out wide of the sanctuary markers, sitting in about 25 meters of water near the sea whip patch! A shiver of Scallopped Hammerheads were seen by everyone (including the snorkelers), where at some points it was a wall of them so thick you couldn’t see through! Eagle Rays were seen crusing with the current, some spotted and some not, but 6 in total (which made teagan’s dive!). The highlight of the dive however, was the (small) Tiger Shark sighted on descent at the Sanctuary Marker on our first dive!
With warming waters, a coupleof Spotted Yellow Boxfish were seen bouncing around. Bull Rays and Eastern Blue SPotted Stingrays were seen on BOulder Wall a well. Nearing the Gap, Hawksbill Turtles as well as well as Green Turtles were seen on the wall and in the Gap itself.
