Monday 8th june – World Ocean Day Did Not Disappoint!
We celebrated World Ocean Day out at South Solitary today, and the ocean did not disappoint. It was our first whale-watching trip of the season, and we were lucky enough to spot several whales heading north, along with a pod of dolphins riding the bow.
Dive One
Everyone headed in at Shark Gutters. As we descended, we were greeted by our first Grey Nurse Shark of the day. There were plenty of schooling fish throughout the dive, and a spotted eagle ray came in nice and close to the group. We also found lots of wobbegongs resting around the site.
Dive Two
The second dive was a swim from Manta Arch to Shark Gutters, where we encountered up to 12 Grey Nurse Sharks. Other highlights included crayfish, an octopus, several turtles—including a large loggerhead turtle—and a Micromelo undata nudibranch.
A fantastic day on the water and a great way to celebrate World Ocean Day!
