17th November 2024- Barney crashes
Beore the Northerly wind picks up for a few days, SoWild took the opportunity to head out to South Solitary to finish off the weekend strong with another double dive!
Dive one saw divers drop in at Buchanan’s wall. With a mix of students and certified divers, Lindsay headed deep to complete the deep dive component of an Advanced course, whereas Teagan took her Open Water Students to explore a bit, whilst Nathan took his certified divers on a swim down the wall in search of some cool macro life! Highlights of this dive included a Dunckers Pipefish seen swimming in the deeper waters off of the wall, a dozen (give or take) Coral Banded Shrimp on the wall, as well as some Peppermint Shrimp.
After hiding from the wind for our surface interval, doing a bit of bird watching, and having some morning tea – everyone was keen to jump in again for round two!
A swim from Shark Gutters to The Gantry was an optimal dive for our second time in the water for the day. Grey Nurse Sharks were seen around the top ends Gutter, as well as a Solo Scallopped Hammerhead lurking around Cleaner Rock! Barney gave the Open Water Students a very loud hello, swimming right into everyone to make her appearnace known inside of Shark. Along the wall, divers saw a Juvenile Clown Tirgger Fish, a Bull Ray, schooling fish, and Cod hiding in different crevises. Around the Gap and the Gantry, more Green Turtles made an appearnce, along with some nudibranchs and spanish dancers.
Congratulations Dimitrios, Jorgie, and Matt for completing your PADI Open Water Scuba Diver course! You did amazing.
