21st June 2025- Whales Sing During Dive
SoWild managed to get out for another day out at South Solitary this morning! Steaming out there, we watched some whales on their migration north!
Conditions were quite similar to what they have been throughout the week. Dive one saw all divers jump in at Manta Arch. Some divers headed out deep through the guter whilst others stayed in shallow-er waters and swam into the back Gutter. Not many Grey Nurse Sharks were seen in the bakck gutter, however tehre were 20-30 cruising around Manta Mooring and out a bit deeper! There was another Pomacanthus semicirculatus (Semi-circle Angelfish) kicking about, a much appreciated fish we are lucky to see at the Solitary’s! A Lionfish was another lucky marine animal sighted today, too!
After a toasty surface interval, our dive crew jumped in at Shark Gutters! Winter season on the top end of the island is one of our favourites, as there is such a variety of marine life to appreciate! Grey Nurse Sharks were seen in abundance, scattered from the gutters and out into the deeper waters. Plenty of pelagic fish were seen buzzing around Cleaner Rock, Painted Cray Fish, Green Sea Turtles, Wobbegongs, and scholing fish like promfrets. The highlight of our second dive were the whales being suuuper vocal in the background!!
Congratulations to Imogen and Lindsay for completing your PADI Open Water Cert today!
