29th June 2025- Squidy Sunday
With the wind and swell easing after a few messy days, SoWild packed up with dive kits and a boat full of keen divers! With low southerly winds and minimal swell, it made for a nice and quick trip out to the Lighthouse!
Dive one was a jump in and out at Shark Gutters. The top end of the island is teeming with fish at the moment! Divers swam through walls of fish both big and small. Grey Nurse Sharks made their presence known, with about a dozen or so being around the Boulder Wall (one large female as well!). Mantis Shrimp, Nudibranchs, and White Eyed Moray were also seen by those with a keen eye!
Dive two was the highlight of today! We started at Shark Gutters and swam down to The Gantry- a fan favourite that we haven’t done in ages! Grey nurses were seen at the bottom of the mooring upon descent, covered in scars and marks! This is a probable sign of mating. Massive Black Cods were seen in the 3rd gutter, along with two Adult Semi-Circle Angelfish! There were heaps of eagle rays today, 6 swimming in real close to some of our divers! Julz and her group saw a Squad of 30 Squid at the top of five metre rock! Barney the local legendary Loggerhead Turtle of course was out and about today, too!
