7th January 2026 – Hump Day Diving
Mega Wild was again laden with divers as it headed out to South Solitary Island. Exceptionally calm surface conditions made the trip out to South Solitary super quick and comfortable. With these glasslike conditions, Mega dropped divers in at Manta Arch, seeing around 20 Grey Nurse Sharks in the arch. The open-water students dove in at Cleaner Station for their first dive, seeing a marbled fantail ray, wobbegongs, and moray eels.
After the surface interval, Mega dropped divers all around the island, taking advantage of the calm conditions. Divers were in the water for a swim from Cleaner Station to The Gantry, while some divers swam through the Gap, and the open-water students perfected their buoyancy at The Gantry. Highlights of this dive were without a doubt the two leopard sharks, among the other usual suspects that make the solitaries home.
The water temperature on the trip home broke the 25°C barrier, indicating we have officially entered summer waters!
Visibility: 10-15 metres
Temperature: 23.5°C-24°C
