9th jANUARY 2026 – Thankful for Fridives
Today’s Dive had Mega running out to South Solitary Island for a double dive. With strong current and a northerly wind, we hopped in at Buchanan’s Wall for dive one. A cold upwelling kept most divers in the warmer, shallow water. The Marine life at Buchanan’s featured Turtles, Wobbegongs for the larger things, while octopus, cuttlefish, and fire gobies (pictured) made up some of the macro highlights.
Dive Two had Mega dropping divers into Shark Gutters for a drift down the western side of the island. While there were choppy surface conditions, underwater diving was spectacular. The cold upwelling, combined with the current and warm waters being pushed through, sent the marine life into a spin. Divers got up close with huge numbers of Blotched Fantail Rays, making the most of the turbulent water on the boulder wall as well as seeing the leopard sharks and eagle rays hanging around in the warm current.
