Welcome to the August 2022 Jetty Dive Debrief! This is our newest addition to the blog – the “debrief”. Here we are going to let you know how the water has been, what the season showed us, any interesting or noteworthy details, and what we’ve achieved as a shop!

Seasonal Marine Life Activity:

Lots of dolphins have been hanging around our boats in the month of August, both on Whale Watches and dive trips. The month has been filled with sightings of Grey Nurse Sharks, from 15 on the 7th, 8-10 on the 11th,

On the 11th we spotted 2-3 eagle rays, 6-8 turtles, and a fur seal enjoying the sun! There were still plenty of turtles on the 12th seeing around 6 – 8. On the 27th we saw the return of a seal, greeting some divers at their safety stop.

August started our Whale Swimming season. It was a slow start to the season, with unfortunately inconsistent weather, but we have enjoyed success on several of our Whale Swimmign experiences.

Temperature

Temperature was consistently 18°C throughout August.

Sustainability and the environment

This section we are dedicating to showing what steps we are taking to reduce our environmental impact. It might include incentives we have implemented or tried through the month, or programs we have participated in. We intend to expand upon our conservation efforts page with everything we have implemented in store – as we are doing much more than this page shows!

As avid PADI Aware contributors we love to show our environmental support of the underwater world. We are planning on upgrading our instructors to teach the PADI specialty course “Divers against Debris”.

As we continue forth with Whale Swimming we are excited to see how those trips pan out. As previously mentioned we are meeting with PADI to improve how our business and courses run.
